This Abrasive Wheels training is half day course designed to provide participants with knowledge and skills needed to mount and operate abrasive wheel equipment safely and in compliance with statutory requirements.

Who is the course intended for?
This course is intended for those required to select and mount abrasive wheels safely in accordance with the regulations.

Duration:
0.5 Day (morning or afternoon)

Training methodology:
This course is a classroom based and instructor led with the practical demonstrations.

Assessment:
Participants will be observed carrying out the practical tasks and it’s expected to assess the following skills:

  • Selection of correct wheel
  • Inspection & pre-checks
  • Mounting techniques
  • Guarding
  • Test runs
  • Safe work practices

Accreditation/Certification:
The successful participants will be awarded with Amber Safety Certificate of Completion valid for 3 years.

Course Objectives

On the completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify different types of abrasive wheels
  • Identify types, markings, operating speeds used in correct selection of abrasive wheels
  • Explain the hazards associated with abrasive wheels
  • Store and handle abrasive wheels correctly
  • Demonstrate inspection and testing methods and techniques
  • Identify components used in mounting abrasive wheels
  • Demonstrate correct assembly, balance and fitting methods
  • Explain dressing/maintenance requirements
  • Select suitable PPE
  • Demonstrate Safe Working Practices & Techniques

  • Proper methods relating to the mounting of abrasive wheels
  • Hazards arising from the use of abrasive wheels and precautions which should be observed
  • Methods of marking abrasive wheels as to type and speed
  • Methods of storing, handling, and transporting abrasive wheels
  • Methods of inspecting and testing abrasive wheels to check for damage
  • The functions of all components used with abrasive wheels, including flanges, washers, bushes and nuts; used in mounting,
  • The correct and incorrect methods of assembling all components and correct balancing of abrasive wheels
  • The proper method of dressing an abrasive wheel
  • The adjustment of the rest of an abrasive wheel
  • The requirements of the Regulations
  • The use of advisory literature relating to the mounting of abrasive wheel
